Marlyn’s trip report

Larry and I took off from O69 on June 8 and returned July 18 after 56 hours
of flying in 5 weeks on to Montreal via Kanab, UT; Plainview, TX, where I
was taken on a 2 1/2 hour soaring expedition in a two seat glider; then to
Jennings, LA; Slidell, LA; Asheville, NC; Frederick, MD; cleared Canadian
customs in Cornwall, Ont; on to Montreal, Quebec City; Ottawa; Parry Sound
on Georgian Bay east of Lake Huron; Pittsfield, MA; Columbus, Ohio, where we
were hung up 2 extra days due to a huge storm system (our only wx problem);
on to Hannibal, MO; Goodland, KS; Aspen, CO; Bryce Canyon and back to O69.

Of course, we’ve got stories to tell, but it takes hours to tell.

Now the Saratoga is in Ashland where it’s getting its annual, and an
overhaul of the prop. That’s why we can’t come to Hood River. I’m so
disappointed. Please let us know how it is and look forward to your story
about it.

Happy days on the wing.
Marlyn

Russian River O60 Cloverdale

Just got back from a day up on the Russian River. You fly into Cloverdale, park, scurry across the runway to a beautiful beach and river to frolic in. Such a perfect summer idyll.

Cowgirl Country

I can hear the tap, tap, tapping. It started
back in Feb. right after we decided to go to Steamboat
Springs, CO for the July fly out. What could
that be? It was incessant, a gentle knocking, the
kind that’s trying to make contact with your consciousness.
We checked out the obvious; dripping
down spouts, obsessive wood peckers, creaking
house. No luck. As July approached the tapping took
on a new resonance. It rocked from a softer staccato
to a pounding. Finally, isolating the noise coming
from the back of my closet, the culprit danced
out. There were my cowgirl boots, vibrating, romping
and rolling with the anticipation of a visit to cattle
country. These are relics from my days on the
‘ranch’. Continue reading ‘Cowgirl Country’

Marin 99s fly-out to Grass Valley

The Marin County 99s are known for their active flying and their minimal politicking. This year’s varied fly-out calendar has had something for everyone: Winter bird-watching in the Sacramento flyway, cave scrambling at Pinnacles, high desert wildflower and reptile photography at Joshua, mentoring young pilots of the future at Petaluma Airport’s June Display Day with a special WOW event, hiking and biking in the Rockies at Steamboat, and exploring the waters of the Columbia River and the Pacific Coast in kayaks. A special new dimension of our weekend getaways is music! This year we programmed two music festivals into our schedule for June and September.

The weekend of June 11-13 was our fly-away to Grass Valley for the well-regarded Music in the Mountains festival. Continue reading ‘Marin 99s fly-out to Grass Valley’
